Kid's Corner

I went to my first rally/protest on March 4, 2025. There were a lot of people there, which I found surprising, because let’s be honest this is South Carolina: as red a state as there is. When we showed up, there was a lot of support for Ukraine on people’s signs, which was encouraging. The rally was roughly two hours long.

I felt nervous when I was there at first and also pretty silly, because my sign was VERY unrelated to everything else going on. I’m telling you now, you may feel a little silly or embarrassed, even if you don’t have an unrelated sign, especially if you’re anything like me.

There was some catchy chanting, most of which was about Trump and/or Elon Musk needing to go away. Talk about ego crushing!

I was surprisingly comfortable, though I did get a bit thirsty during the rally. I went in a t-shirt with a base layer underneath, lined sweatpants, fuzzy socks, and tennis shoes. I highly recommend comfortable, padded tennis shoes, because you’ll be on your feet a lot.

Pack a water bottle and a snack. If you go to a rally in the summer, make sure to bring a thermal (heat or cold trapping) water bottle with ice in it. You can also bring it in the winter, or any other time, if you want your drink to stay the same temperature. I know this is long, but it’s all needed for top comfort.

WARNING: Your arms WILL be tired!!!

I know that was kind of dramatic, but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, you know what I mean? Taking my warning into account, the whole thing was fun. I enjoyed feeling like my voice was heard, even if it was completely unrelated. Also, make sure to pack a jacket or sweater, even if you’re sure it’s not needed, so you don’t end up a human popsicle!
